The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) was finalized on September 10, 2015. With the passage of this legislation will come increasing requirements for food testing procedures and documentation. The largest impact will come in the form of an increase in the volume of food samples that must be processed in accordance with the new rules. Food testing labs have the opportunity here to deal with the increased demands for testing by being innovative, and implementing new technologies into the laboratory, rather than by simply expanding facilities
